Make your day better. Do something surprising (and kind) for someone. DearKidLoveMom.comDear Kid,

Yesterday I went to the gym after work.

As I was about to leave the locker room and head to the gym floor, a woman walked in after her workout.

“Excuse me,” I said, “Are you Superintendent James?”

The woman stopped and turned toward me. “Yes,” she said. Her smile was friendly. Her eyelashes said, “Seriously? I have office hours and these aren’t them.”

I smiled. She smiled. Her eyelashes were not impressed.

“I just wanted to tell you…” Her eyelashes geared for defense. “…how much we love your school system.”

Her eyelashes blinked. Her entire posture changed. She smiled for real this time. “Thank you,” she said, “you just made my entire day.”

We chatted for another minute or so. Then I headed off to convince myself I really wanted to travel several miles on an elliptical. As I walked out, a cheery “thank you!” followed me.

It was the easiest workout I’d had in a while.

Do something unexpected and nice for someone. It will make their day—and your day—happier.

Love, Mom
