Dear Kid,

The Fabulous Zoey is working as an intern for Art Works this summer which is great. What’s even better is that she is sharing some of her experience working on a public mural for Cincinnati.

Stage one of our work in the old ship warehouse! It’s super dusty. Every morning I walk in and sneeze like crazy (Bless you!-me).

One of the images we will be painting is of the river with boats because we are working on the river and it represents Cincinnati’s history. We can see the river from the logs we sit on during lunch.

In these pictures you can see some of the 8′ by 2′ panels that we are priming with gesso and sanding to make a good surface for our mural.

priming the panels for the Cincinnati Art Works mural. DearKidLoveMom.comSo far, my team and I have carried all 32 panels at least twice (as well as the wood crate structures we are using for stands). I didn’t know there would be so much heavy lifting in art!

Tomorrow (by which she means today), we touch up the gesso and begin to grid the panels. This will ensure the accuracy of the mural to the design as well as help split up the work for us apprentices. Will keep you updated.

P.S. This is the first mural in Cincinnati of this style. We are painting on panels and they will be installed on the building in a way that it will be seen as one mural when driving one way and another when driving the other way. This is called lenticular. In reality, we are painting four different designs in total.

How cool is Cincinnati? And how cool is our very own Zoey for participating and for sharing?

As she keeps me posted, I will keep you posted.

Love, Mom
